Frequently asked questions

Where do I put the phone?
Set the tripod behind the hole, on the line of your putt, with the camera facing you and tilted slightly toward the hole. Place it between 3.3 ft and 6.2 ft from the hole; 4.3 ft is ideal. Closer, it sees short putts better; farther, long ones. Set the camera between 2.0 ft and 5.2 ft high; about 3.3 ft is ideal.
Do I need a tripod?
Yes, it is essential. It holds the phone facing you, without moving, for the whole series. If the phone moves during play, the series is cancelled: set the tripod up again and restart. A light tripod that unfolds in one click, with a MagSafe mount.
Do I need earbuds?
No, only to play by voice. With earbuds, EyePutt tells you where each ball stops, and it listens to you. Without earbuds, it does not listen; it talks to you through the speaker, at a lower volume. If it never speaks, check that “Voice announcement” is on.
How do I control the app by voice and finish without touching the phone?
With your earbuds, say one word at a time, once EyePutt has stopped talking. Say “pause” before stepping into the camera’s view to move a ball away, and “resume” once you are out of it. To finish, say “done”, then “yes” when it asks “done?”. In Free putt and Precision, “next” then “yes” closes the series, and “start” launches the next one.
Is my iPhone compatible?
EyePutt works on iPhone only, from the iPhone 12 to the latest, with iOS 26. It needs the 0.5× Ultra Wide camera: no iPhone SE, 16e, 17e or Air. The iPhone 11 and older are too slow for measuring. The first time you open it, EyePutt checks your iPhone; if it is not suitable, a screen tells you.
iPhone Pro or not: how does the app know the height?
On an iPhone Pro, the distance sensor measures the height on its own: no gesture needed. On other iPhones, once the phone is fixed on the tripod, gently tilt the tripod forward, then straighten it: the height is measured as soon as everything is still. EyePutt then keeps it for the next drills, until you close the app. On these iPhones, you can also set the height yourself in Settings › Game settings.
How many free balls per day?
You get 15 measured balls per day, across all drills, and 3 Duels per day. The count resets every day, following your iPhone’s calendar. A series you have started goes to the end. To play without limits, there is the “Unlimited” subscription.
Two balls touch?
Your ball counts where it stops. EyePutt says “collision” before its distance. The ball that was hit keeps its earlier result, even if it moved.
A ball is in my line?
With your earbuds, say “pause”, then pick it up or put it out of the phone’s view. Then say “resume”. Nothing EyePutt sees during the pause is counted, and a ball already counted keeps its result. Without earbuds, don’t touch the balls before the end of the series.
A ball was not seen, or counted wrong?
At the end of the series, EyePutt shows every ball. For a ball it could not place, it asks you “Where did this ball finish?”: tap holed, zone 1, zone 2 or outside the zones. If you announced more balls than it saw, the missing ones get the same question. Answer before leaving this screen.
My ball went into the hole and came back out (bouncing off other balls): is it holed?
No. A holed ball is a ball that disappears into the hole. If it comes back out, it counts where it stops.
What are zone 1 and zone 2?
Zone 1 goes up to 18 in from the edge of the hole, zone 2 up to 35 in. EyePutt measures from the edge of the hole to the center of your ball. A holed ball scores the most points, then zone 1, then zone 2; beyond that, 0 points. If the phone is less than 16 in high, there are no zones.
The sun is low and the app has trouble finding the hole?
Don’t point the phone toward the sun when it is low. Turn your setup so that the sun is behind the phone, or to the side. EyePutt then recognizes the hole better.
How does the league work?
The league has five levels: Bogey, Par, Birdie, Eagle and Albatros. Each session gives you 100 points, plus the points from your balls. You move up when your total reaches the next level; from Birdie on, you also need to play well over your last 30 days. A level you have earned is never lost: after 7 days without playing, your total loses 1,000 points per week, without dropping below your level.
How do I measure the distance of my putts?
Count your steps from the edge of the hole. A normal step is about 0.42 times your height: at 5.7 ft, that’s 29 in per step, so 9.8 ft ≈ 4 steps. The grid below gives you the number of steps for your height directly. Measure your step once with a tape measure, then always count your steps the same way: you’ll get the same distance from one series to the next, and your stats will stay comparable.
